Yalu was the last of the boys from the Pacifico x Diamond litter to find a home. Three of the pups left particularly early -- at just barely six weeks -- because Storey was off on an extended stay in Boston. Two of the pups, Sijan and Osan, flew out with her to their new homes. On Storey's return Yalu had grown (that happens when puppies are left to nature and nurture for nearly six weeks!) and it was at that point that Storey thought, "Why am I trying to sell this beautiful boy?"
So Yalu, along with his sister, Gaza, made themselves at home at Black Rock.
Many years ago, Storey sold an Aussie pup to a friend, Sherry Rogers. The pup lived to an old age. Sherry, meanwhile, had lost her mind and began breeding Rottweilers! But it was clear the Aussie had made a lasting impression and Sherry began muttering about another Aussie, as she often had in the past but always quickly followed with a variety of reasons why the happy addition couldn't happen then. Sherry had recently built her dream home in Albuquerque's east mountains. With more than two acres of fenced land a house designed with multiple dog doors, there would be no better time. So Yalu went to "visit." Then Yalu stayed. The idea was a co-ownership and shared responsibilities between Storey and Sherry and showing and performance venues. But then Storey got a job in Germany.
Yalu now lives happily with his two Rottweiler buddies Koko and Kiva. Since another two years must pass before Yalu will be mature enough for the show ring, Sherry will have plenty of time to find a new handler AND work on the performance side of his training.
